Rob Emerson set to fight Phillipe Nover

The UFC’s annual Super Bowl weekend card has another addition following the booking of a lightweight bout between Phillipe Nover (5-2-1 MMA, 0-2 UFC) and Goes Martial Arts Student, Rob Emerson (8-8 MMA, 2-2 UFC).

UFC 109 takes place Feb. 6 in Las Vegas. As MMAjunkie.com reported last week, the event likely takes place at the Mandalay Bay Events Center and airs on pay-per-view.

Nover, the lightweight runner-up on “The Ultimate Fighter 8,” could be fighting for his life in the organization. The native New Yorker and Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt dropped a unanimous decision to Efrain Escudero at the live finale for “TUF 8″ and then dropped a first-round TKO to Kyle Bradley at UFC 98 in May.

Nover was then slated to fight Sam Stout at UFC Fight Night 19 in September. However, on the day of the fight, Nover suffered a seizure in his dressing room and was pulled from the card. He’s since been cleared to resume training.

Emerson, meanwhile, looks to get back on track following back-to-back losses to Kurt Pellegrino (submission) and Rafael dos Anjos (decision) in his two most recent bouts. Prior to the skid, Emerson, a cast member on “The Ultimate Fighter 5,” fought Gray Maynard to a no-contest at the show’s live finale before posting a pair of victories over Keita Nakamura (decision) and Manny Gamburyan (knockout).

Prior to the losses, Emerson, who began his career with a 2-6 mark, went 6-0 (with the no-decision) during a seven-fight stretch.
